Brazil star Neymar back in World Cup squad under new coach Carlo Ancelotti

Neymar has been included in Brazil’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, marking a major comeback after a lengthy injury struggle that many analysts believed would rule him out of contention.

The 34-year-old forward, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 international goals, has faced persistent fitness concerns since suffering a serious ACL injury to his left knee in October 2023. Despite limited appearances since then, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti named Neymar in his 26-man World Cup squad announced on Monday.

Ancelotti, who took charge of Brazil in May 2025, had not previously selected Neymar during his tenure. The Italian coach recently extended his contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The squad also includes Brazil’s key attacking stars in recent years, including Vinicius Junior and Raphinha, who are expected to play central roles in the team’s campaign.

However, Brazil will miss several important players due to injuries, particularly forwards Rodrygo and Estevao, whose absence is seen as a setback for the squad ahead of the tournament in North America.

The selected squad features a mix of experienced internationals and emerging young talents competing across major clubs worldwide.
