West Bengal’s former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress are once again at the centre of discussion in the country’s politics. According to reports, Sonia Gandhi has proposed that Mamata Banerjee join the Congress.
Sources claim that if Mamata Banerjee joins the Congress, she has been offered the post of Vice-President of the AICC, All India Congress Committee. At the same time, discussions are reportedly underway to give TMC’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee the responsibility of National General Secretary of the Congress.
Although no official announcement has been made so far by either the Congress or the TMC on this matter, the news has nonetheless sparked widespread speculation in political circles across the country.
Analysts have opined that if such a political equation materialises, it could bring a major shift in opposition politics ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
