Assam’s Wildlife Win: Rare Himalayan Mole Safely Returned To Wild After River Rescue

A rare Himalayan Mole (Euroscaptor micrurus), an endemic mammal found in the Himalayan region, was rescued by the Assam Forest Department after being swept away by the strong currents of the Manas River and was later released safely into its natural habitat inside Manas National Park.

Sharing the development on social media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the forest department’s frontline staff for their timely intervention in rescuing the rare animal and ensuring its safe return to the wild.

He said the successful rescue reflects Assam’s continued commitment to wildlife conservation and the protection of every species that inhabits the state’s rich forest ecosystems.

The Himalayan Mole is a rarely sighted species native to the Himalayan landscape. Wildlife officials said the rescue underscores the importance of vigilant conservation efforts and rapid response by frontline forest personnel in safeguarding the state’s unique biodiversity.
