Six young innovators from West Bengal have secured places in the national Top 40 of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, presenting technology-led solutions focused on wage transparency, communication accessibility and the wellbeing of elderly people living alone. Rahul Gupta and Anushka Gupta are exploring an AI-based solution to simplify minimum wage information, helping workers in sectors such as construction, domestic work and agriculture better understand their wage entitlements. Sayak Samanta and Soufir Rahman are developing SignBridge AI, which aims to translate sign language into speech and text in real time, addressing communication barriers for people with hearing and speech disabilities.
Shourjiya Chakraborty and Aishi Mukhopadhyay, meanwhile, are working on a technology-driven solution to help families and caregivers stay informed about the wellbeing of senior citizens living alone, including potential signs of emotional distress or cognitive decline.In The achievement highlights the city’s growing potential as a hub for youth-led innovation, AI and socially relevant technology. With an expanding startup ecosystem and increasing focus on digital inclusion, solutions in labour welfare, accessibility and elder care could offer significant opportunities for further development and eventual market adoption.
More than half of this year’s national Top 40 teams are from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The teams will now attend a 10-day Innovation Boot camp with mentoring from startup founders and industry experts at FITT-IIT Delhi, followed by the next round to select the Top 20. The four winning teams will collectively receive ₹2 crore in incubation grants, along with incubation support from FITT-IIT Delhi, to advance their solutions towards market readiness.
