SEED Department Reviews ITI Performance, Employment Exchanges and Youth Skill Development in Assam

Assam Minister for Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship Departments, Biswajit Daimary, on Friday chaired a state-level review meeting of the Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department (SEED) at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.

The meeting was attended by the senior principals, principals and superintendents of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) from across the State, as well as Deputy Directors of Employment (DDEs), Assistant Directors of Employment (ADEs), Employment Officers (EOs) and Assistant Employment Officers (AEOs) of Employment Exchanges across Assam.

The meeting began with a welcome address by Dr. Om Prakash, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department.

Kasturi Bharali, secretary, SEED, along with the Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Department, were also present at the meeting.

Detailed presentations on the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT) under SEED, the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM), Assam Skill University and the Employment Wing were made during the meeting, outlining the functioning and key performance areas of the department.

Various important areas were discussed, including the admission performance of ITIs during the last three years, ITI availability status across LACs, strengthening of Employment Exchanges into District Youth Welfare Centres (DYWCs), Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerana Scheme, career and vocational guidance activities, etc.

The Minister also reviewed the functioning and progress of the North East Skill Centres (NESC), CM-FLIGHT and other key initiatives under the Department.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister urged the district-level officers to adopt a more proactive and result-oriented approach in discharging their responsibilities.

Emphasising the importance of skilling in enhancing employability, the Minister said that skill development must be closely aligned with the emerging requirements of the job market.

The Minister emphasised the need for coordinated and focused efforts by ITIs and Employment Exchanges to enhance skill development, employment opportunities and entrepreneurship prospects for the youth of Assam.
