Udhampur Gears Up for Historic Moungari Mela

The 3-day Moungari Mela, also known as Shiv-Parvati Mela, at the Shiv-Parvati Shrine in Udhampur district starts today. Organized by the Udhampur District Administration in the ‘Sar Dabbar’ area, this event, which attracts thousands during the first to third Jyeshth is celebrated with religious fervor and a festive spirit. All necessary security and logistical arrangements have been finalized to support pilgrims and tourists. The Mela site in Block and Tehsil Moungri, Udhampur, is a popular destination for visitors honoring Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and other deities in natural caves, featuring a notable nine and half feet Lingam.

The event showcases local artists and cultural groups through folk music and dance, with government stalls promoting welfare schemes. Activities like Kabaddi and tug of war are organized by the District Administration Udhampur. Free buses and langar facilitate attendance, addressing social, economic, and religious needs while promoting cultural heritage and fostering unity among diverse communities.
