A historic moment for Indian football. The Brazilian Football Federation has confirmed that its national football team will play a friendly match against India. The match will be held on 3rd October at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata.
Since the FIFA ranking system began in 1992, Brazil will be the highest-ranked team to play against India. According to the Federation, India has the largest fan base for Brazil outside of Brazil itself. This match reflects the popularity of Brazilian football across the entire region.
According to M. Satyanarayan, Deputy General Secretary of the All India Football Federation, welcoming a team like Brazil will be a milestone for Indian football.
Former Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul mentioned that it is a rare opportunity for Indian players to test their skills against one of the best teams in the world and to get inspired.
The five-time World Champions and currently 5th ranked team in FIFA, Brazil, will play two friendly matches against Australia on 25th and 29th September before coming to India.
