For Indian travellers heading overseas, staying connected can often mean arranging a roaming pack, purchasing a local SIM or travel eSIM, retaining access to OTPs and worrying about unexpected charges. Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) is seeking to simplify that experience with free international roaming on select plans across more than 170 countries.
Announced on September 25 under its “Vi Pe Sab Hain VIP” brand promise, the new offering allows eligible postpaid, prepaid and enterprise customers, as well as family members under eligible plans, to access free international roaming for up to three trips a year. Depending on the plan, customers receive international data quotas and outgoing minutes, with savings of up to Rs 9,000 a year.
The benefit is available on postpaid plans starting at Rs 501, annual prepaid unlimited data plans and corporate plans starting at Rs 451 for enterprise customers. Activation can be completed through the Vi App by selecting the international Roam-Free plans.
Avneesh Khosla, Chief Marketing Officer, Vi, said the company was shifting international roaming from something customers “buy” when travelling to a built-in benefit on key plans.
The proposition is being promoted through a new commercial featuring Shah Rukh Khan. Vi said the initiative is designed to make international travel connectivity more inclusive, seamless and worry-free while allowing customers to continue using their Indian numbers abroad.
