UAE Investigation Confirms flydubai Co-Pilot Attacked Indian Pilot with Cockpit Axe

New findings from the investigations into the flydubai flight FZ1073 incident indicate that the co-pilot tried to execute a “terrorist act,” as confirmed on Saturday by UAE Attorney-General and Federal Prosecutor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi via a WAM News Agency statement, which detailed how the co-pilot initiated his plan mid-flight by assaulting the captain inside the flight deck. Initial probe findings show that the Omani co-pilot utilized a crash axe to try and seize command of the aircraft’s flight controls, prompting authorities to press on with investigations to uncover the full circumstances, motives, and potential connections, as well as finish technical examinations and analyze physical and digital evidence. Attorney-General Shamsi noted that the definitive results will be officially released once all mandatory legal and investigative steps are finalized, while the Omani co-pilot accused of attacking Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar was identified earlier in the day as 29-year-old Hamam Al-Hammami. Al-Hammami, born in the UAE to an Omani father and a Syrian mother, lived in the UAE for several years and reportedly studied at Buckinghamshire New University in England based on his LinkedIn profile. Additionally, sources cited by Al Arabiya English stated that he was previously grounded from flying in Oman because of worries regarding his alleged extremist views and had spent considerable time outside Oman, such as in Syria, where he was allegedly influenced by extremist thoughts.
