The 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong in Sikkim with a cleanliness drive conducted under the direction of the District Collector, Pakyong.
The programme began with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and a remembrance of his principles of truth, non-violence and self-reliance.
Following the tribute, officials and participants carried out a cleanliness drive at the DAC complex and adjoining areas as part of the ongoing Swachhata initiatives.
The programme was attended by the SDM, Headquarters, Thendup Lepcha; SDM, Pakyong, Nilkantha Bhandhari; District Engineer Zilla, Kailash Sharma; General Secretary, Government Driver Association, Pakyong District, and staff members.
Likewise, the Pakyong District Police also conducted a cleanliness drive on October 1 as part of the Swachh Abhiyan to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The drive was carried out as part of activities to promote cleanliness and sanitation.
Meanwhile, Namchi District Headquarters also observed Gandhi Jayanti at the District Administrative Centre (DAC) in Namchi.
The observance was attended by DC, Namchi Anupa Tamling, ADC Namchi, Trisang Tamang, SDM (HQ) Nim Pintso Bhutia, DFO (T) Namchi, Tsheten Tashi Lepcha, BDO Namchi, Upendra Rai, along with Heads of Departments, officers and officials from various departments.
As part of the observance, the dignitaries and officials paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi situated within the DAC premises and offered khadas in remembrance of the Father of the Nation.
The occasion served as a solemn reminder of Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring ideals of truth, non-violence, simplicity and selfless service, inspiring all to uphold these values in public life and society.
