Dima Hasao Police seized two pistols, ammunition and mobile phones and apprehended one person during an operation in the Dauhaja jungle area under Langting Police Station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on September 19.
The operation was conducted in the early hours after police received information about a makeshift tent located inside a jhum cultivation field in the forested area.
Acting on the information, a police team launched a search in the area and found the makeshift tent. During the operation, the personnel recovered two pistols from the site, including one .22 calibre pistol and another .32 calibre pistol. Ammunition and mobile phones were also recovered during the search.
One person was apprehended in connection with the recovery. Police subsequently took the seized firearms, ammunition and mobile phones into custody for further examination.
The recovery has prompted a further investigation by Dima Hasao Police to establish how the firearms and other materials reached the remote location and to determine the role of the apprehended person.
Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the makeshift tent and the presence of the weapons in the jhum cultivation area. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
