Successful Bitter Gourd Farming Story Emerge from Jashore

Faruk Hossain, a sheltered member of the Bangladesh Army and occupant of Jagadishpur vill under Jashore’s Chowgachha upazila, has set up success in bitter gourd civilization by espousing ultramodern husbandry practices. He has been growing bitter gourds using casinos rather of traditional styles, and following a crop gyration on the same plot of land, a system husbandry officers say can ameliorate land use and reduce costs over time. The system involves raised beds covered with polythene during early growth, followed by bamboo- and- line casinos that allow the vines to climb, perfecting yield and quality, according to the planter.

Faruk said he has been earning around Tk 2.5 lakh per season by cultivating mongrel kinds of bitter gourds on one bigha since 2024, alongside mongrel chilli and small watermelon on conterminous 10- katha plots, as well as Boro paddy on five bighas. After harvesting bitter gourds, Faruk said he reused the same kiosk to grow cucumbers, earning a fresh Tk 75,000 per season. This season, he has vended bitter gourds worth Tk 50,000 so far.

“With proper fertilisation, pest control and care, I earned Tk 2.30 lakh against a product cost of around Tk 30,000 in the first time, ” he said. He also installed a solar- powered pump that allows irrigation as demanded without recreating energy or electricity costs. Original growers said they’re interested in espousing analogous styles. Mujibur Rahman, a occupant of the same vill, said he was encouraged by Faruk’s success and now plans to cultivate bitter gourds using casinos.

According to the upazila husbandry office, casinos can be used for over to three times formerly set up, making it a cost-effective system.
Mosabbir Hossain, upazila husbandry officer, said kiosk- grounded husbandry is getting popular due to its profitability and effective land use through crop- gyration. “It also requires lower irrigation,” he added.
