Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup Group A match against India in Dubai on Saturday.
Fatima was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The provision relates to using language, actions or gestures that disparage a batter or could provoke an aggressive reaction following their dismissal during an international match.
Along with the financial penalty, one demerit point has been added to Fatima’s disciplinary record. It was her second offence within a 24-month period, taking her total demerit points during that period to two. Her previous demerit point came during the first T20I of Pakistan’s series against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
The latest incident took place during the second over of India’s innings. After dismissing opener Shafali Verma, Fatima gestured towards the pavilion.
Fatima admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, meaning a formal hearing was not required.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.
Under the ICC rules, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
