Hon’ble MP from Sikkim, Shri Indra Hang Subba visited Project Swastik at Gangtok. Discussions included the status of road infrastructure restoration and resilience measures undertaken by Project Swastik. During the visit, he interacted with Brig Amit Sakhre, Chief Engineer, Project Swastik.
The discussions focused on restoration and upgradation of flood-damaged roads, strengthening of vulnerable stretches, slope stabilisation, drainage improvement and protective works to ensure reliable all-weather connectivity in Sikkim’s fragile and high-altitude terrain. Emphasis was laid on adopting climate-resilient infrastructure solutions to mitigate the impact of future extreme weather events.
The Hon’ble MP was briefed on the Slope Stabilisation Measures planned to be adopted on Critical Roads like Singtam – Dikchu which remains cut off due to frequent landslides. He was also briefed on the River Training Works executed on Phidang Bridge, Zeema and Rabom Chu Bridges. He was also given an update on relentless and tireless efforts of Project Swastik at Taram Chu where the personnel of BRO have been working continuously since 18 April 2026 to establish connectivity across the landslide area. The Hon’ble MP expressed satisfaction on the ongoing works. He was also briefed on the future infrastructure projects of Bridges and Tunnels in North Sikkim which will ameliorate the hardships of locals in the long term. He was assured that Project Swastik was committed towards building sustainable infrastructure in the State of Sikkim by incorporating Climate and Geology Resistant Infrastructure.
The Hon’ble MP applauded the efforts of BRO in its swift response to support civil authorities and locals in the times of Natural Calamities. He was appreciative of BROs commitment for reopening of critical road links, restoring access to remote and cut-off areas under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
The visit reaffirmed the collective commitment of BRO towards nation building, disaster preparedness and resilient infrastructure development in support of the people of Sikkim.
