Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday chaired a meeting on the welfare of poultry farmers and policy measures for the sustainable growth of the poultry sector at Samman Bhawan.
Minister Puran Gurung; MLA NB Pradhan; MLA and chairman, DACS, Satish Chandra Rai, senior officials from concerned line departments and various stakeholders attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the initiatives undertaken for poultry development, including the revival of Bermoik Hatchery, subsidised supply of DOCs, establishment of the poultry processing unit, strengthening of Livestock Check Posts, and various programmes supporting farmers.
Tamang directed the concerned departments to strengthen production and management practices, improve coordination among farmers and market stakeholders, promote cooperatives and FPOs, strengthen traceability, and expand poultry processing and value addition.
He also assured the stakeholders that their suggestions would be duly considered and a follow-up meeting will be held to review the proposals and develop a comprehensive framework that will be beneficial to all.
“Our focus will remain on improving poultry production, enhancing farmers’ incomes and employment opportunities, and working towards greater self-reliance in poultry production in Sikkim,” he said in a social media post after the meeting.
