A public awareness seminar on the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana was held on Wednesday at Bijanbari, the headquarters of Darjeeling Pulbazar Block, with the aim of informing residents of rural areas about the scheme. The programme was primarily organised by the BJP Kisan Morcha with support from the Block Development Office. Information was provided on the use of solar energy, government subsidies and the benefits of the scheme.
The seminar was attended by Riwaj Gurung, Vice-Chairman of the Block Panchayat Samiti; Gopal Budhathoki, BJP District Organisational Secretary; Subhan Limbu, President of the Reling-Kaijale Mandal; Nirmal Sharma, District Secretary of the Kisan Morcha; officials from the Electricity Department; representatives of solar companies; and representatives from various Gram Panchayats.
Speakers highlighted that installing solar panels could help reduce household electricity expenses and promote the use of clean energy. Gopal Budhathoki urged residents of the hill region to take advantage of the government scheme, considering the growing demand for electricity.
