Reliance Industries is set to explore multiple investment opportunities in West Bengal, with a large team expected to visit the state next week, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said after meeting Mukesh Ambani and Anant Ambani in Mumbai. Reliance is reportedly considering projects across four to five sectors, including an international cable landing station at Digha, a data centre in Rajarhat and a food park in north Bengal as part of its FMCG expansion. The renewed interest from major industrial groups comes as the state government prepares a new industrial policy aimed at attracting large investments through employment-linked incentives, simplified approvals, easier land acquisition and streamlined environmental clearances. The government also recently allotted land to 33 companies for projects spanning defence equipment, solar cells and modules, semiconductors, power cables, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, steel, jute and jewellery. Companies including Jupiter Defence, Laser Power & Infra, Imeco, Websol, Pidilite, Vikram Solar and Indnix are among those receiving land. The projects represent proposed investments of more than ₹60,000 crore and are expected to create over 62,000 jobs, with companies required to complete their projects by December 31, 2029. The chief minister also said West Bengal is seeking to bring airports in Cooch Behar, Hasimara, Balurghat, Kalaikunda and Purulia under the Centre’s UDAN scheme.
