Over 30,000 attend pro-government rally in Nalbari as Gen Z and women turn out in large numbers

More than 30,000 people, including a large number of young people and women, attended a pro-government rally in Assam’s Nalbari Assembly constituency on Tuesday, with participants expressing support for the governance initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The rally was attended by Nalbari MLA and Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, state organising secretary Ravindra Raju and other legislators from the district. The gathering brought together supporters of the BJP-led government, with employment, education, infrastructure development and electoral reforms emerging as key themes.

A notable feature of the rally was the participation of young people, including members of Generation Z, who highlighted their expectations regarding jobs, education and economic opportunities. Several participants carried placards bearing the message “Careers Over Chaos”, underlining their emphasis on career prospects and stability.

Young job aspirants at the gathering expressed confidence in the state government’s recruitment initiatives, describing the selection process for government jobs as transparent and merit-based. They said the recruitment drives had encouraged them to pursue employment opportunities within Assam rather than look exclusively outside the state.

Participants also pointed to the establishment of new medical colleges, infrastructure development and efforts to expand industrial opportunities as areas in which they believed the government had made progress. These initiatives, they said, were important for improving access to education, creating employment and supporting the state’s economic growth.

The rally also witnessed criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition’s position on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Participants expressed support for the verification exercise, citing concerns over illegal immigration and the need to maintain accurate electoral rolls in Assam.

Some speakers and participants alleged that the Congress was opposing the exercise because of its possible electoral implications. Allegations of foreign influence involving opposition leaders were also raised during the gathering. However, these claims have not been independently substantiated.

Rejecting the suggestion that younger voters were uniformly opposed to the BJP-led governments, participants said their political choices were shaped by issues such as employment, education, development and political stability. They argued that young voters were increasingly concerned with governance and the opportunities available to them.

The presence of young women was also a significant aspect of the gathering, with the rally reflecting the participation of different sections of the electorate in support of the ruling party’s agenda.

The event served as a platform for BJP leaders and supporters to highlight the state government’s development and recruitment initiatives while voicing their views on electoral reform. The organisers put the turnout at more than 30,000, although the figure has not been independently verified.
