Japan Bans Import of Indian Mangoes Decision Following Detection of Excessive Pesticides

Bad news for Indian mango exporters right in the middle of mango season. Japan has imposed a ban on the import of Indian mangoes due to the detection of excessive pesticide residues. The country has taken this strict decision solely to maintain food safety standards.
The Indian mangoes bound for export to Japan were tested through a VHT (Vapor Heat Treatment) process system, and the tests conducted at a facility in Brahmanpuri, Uttar Pradesh, confirmed that the Indian mangoes contained excessive pesticides.
It is noteworthy that varieties of mango like ‘Alfonso’, ‘Kesar’, ‘Langra’, and ‘Baiganpalli’ were being exported to Japan from India in large quantities every year.
