Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the Vastu Puja ceremony held at Jan Sewa Bhawan, Lumsey on Monday.
Jan Sewa Bhawan was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 28, 2026. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Union Minister for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, on February 28, 2023.
Addressing the media on the occasion, Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang said that the shifting of six departments from the Tashiling Secretariat complex to Jan Sewa Bhawan would help decongest the existing Secretariat premises and facilitate more efficient functioning of government departments.
He highlighted the modern design and upgraded facilities of the new administrative complex, stating that the infrastructure had been developed with a focus on efficiency and improved public service delivery.
He also extended his warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on the auspicious occasions of Teej and Ganesh Chaturthi.
The Chief Minister also spoke about proposed additions and further developments within the complex, noting the State Government’s growing emphasis on strengthening public infrastructure across Sikkim.
Regarding the technical aspects of the project, Jan Sewa Bhawan represents a landmark in modern public infrastructure, designed to seamlessly integrate efficiency, accessibility and sustainability within a unified administrative campus.
Spread across approximately 326,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art complex comprises three strategically planned blocks—Block A, Block B and Block C—which accommodate key government departments and public institutions.
Block A houses the Education Department, along with another department to be accommodated subsequently.
Together, the three blocks comprise more than 500 rooms and are supported by parking facilities for over 300 vehicles.
The complex also includes dedicated spaces for collaboration, communication and decision-making. A 114-seater round-table conference hall, along with a dedicated pre-function area, provides a modern setting for important meetings and official events.
The facility further includes two 10-seater video-conferencing rooms and an 18-seater conference hall in Block C, providing modern communication and connectivity facilities for administrative functions.
