Assam youth pledge for a drug-free society during anti-addiction campaign

A ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ Walkathon was organised today by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Assam, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College, at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati.
The walkathon was organised with the objective of creating awareness among young people about the harmful effects of drugs and substance abuse and encouraging them to adopt a healthy, confident and responsible lifestyle.
The programme also highlighted the vital role of the youth in nation-building and in realising the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Vijay Kumar Gupta, MLA, Guwahati Central LAC, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he spoke about the serious challenges faced by young people who fall prey to addiction and highlighted the physical, mental, social and personal consequences of substance abuse.
Gupta urged the youth to remain conscious of their choices and stay away from activities that could adversely affect their health, career and future. He emphasised the importance of self-discipline, a positive environment, constructive engagement and a healthy lifestyle in preventing addiction among young people.
Speaking on the occasion, Dinobondhu Saha, State Director, Assam, said that the responsibility of carrying forward the vision of a Viksit Bharat rests significantly with the younger generation. Referring to the present period as ‘Amrit Kaal’, he called upon the youth to become the ‘Amrit Pidi’ that would carry forward the vision of a developed India through self-development, a progressive mindset, a Nasha Mukt lifestyle and self-confidence.
Dr. Nurul Islam, NSS Programme Officer, encouraged the participants to focus on self-development, acquire knowledge and skills, maintain a positive and progressive outlook and contribute meaningfully to society. He stated that a confident and addiction-free youth population would be an important strength in the journey towards a developed India.
The programme was attended by Bondita Gogoi, District Sports Officer, Kamrup Metro; Biswajit Nath, District Employment Officer, Kamrup Metro; and Rajib Das, Secretary, All Assam Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Committee, among others.
The walkathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from young people, who joined the campaign with the message of building a healthier, stronger and drug-free society and contributing towards the making of a Viksit Bharat.
