Assam eyes ₹700 croreboost as concert economy gains momentum

Assam is poised to emerge as India’s next major concert economy hub, with a new report by BookMyShow, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ATDC) and EY-Parthenon projecting a cumulative economic impact of over ₹700 crore from live entertainment events over the next five years. The report, titled *The Assam Blueprint: Turning Live Music Economy into a Tourism Multiplier*, was unveiled in Guwahati and examines the impact of global music events on the state’s tourism, economy and employment landscape.

Using American rapper Post Malone’s maiden India solo concert in Guwahati in December 2025 as a case study, the report estimated a total economic impact of ₹43 crore, including ₹32 crore spent directly within Assam and nearly ₹5 crore generated in GST revenue. The event attracted around 20,000 attendees, with 53 per cent travelling from outside Guwahati and representing over 200 cities and towns across India. The report noted that for every ₹100 spent on a concert ticket, attendees spent an additional ₹899 on travel, accommodation, dining and shopping. Hotels reported a 30 per cent rise in occupancy, transport operators saw ride demand increase by over 50 per cent, while restaurants and retail businesses recorded significant growth in footfalls.

From a Guwahati market perspective, the findings underscore the city’s growing importance as a gateway for tourism and live entertainment in the North-East. The city recorded a 188 per cent increase in live-event footfalls in 2025 and hosted 55 ticketed events, highlighting strong business opportunities across hospitality, retail, transport and local enterprises. Officials said Assam’s Concert Tourism Policy, infrastructure development and ATDC’s single-window facilitation are helping build a sustainable entertainment ecosystem. The state’s growing stature is expected to receive another boost with legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses scheduled to perform in Guwahati on November 17, 2026.
