Barring two flood-hit districts, self-enumeration for Census 2027 began in Assam on Sunday.
Officials said census preparatory work has been suspended in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, which are yet to recover from the floods, among the worst the State has witnessed.
Registering his details through the online self-enumeration facility, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the people to participate in the exercise.
“Today marks the beginning of online self-enumeration for Census 2027 in Assam wherein you can sit in the comfort of your home and fill in your details,” Sarma said.
“I just did mine; requesting everyone to fill their details correctly and be a part of this exercise,” he added.
The self-enumeration facility allows citizens to provide their household and individual information online through the dedicated portal, se.census.gov.in. The facility will remain available till August 16 ahead of the Houselisting Operation and Housing Census scheduled to begin in the state on August 17.
The self-enumeration process has been introduced to make the Census more participatory and citizen-friendly by enabling people to furnish information online from their homes. Citizens can register on the portal, enter household and individual details, and submit the information digitally during the 15-day window.
One of the key features of the facility is that it allows households to complete their Census details in advance before the visit of enumerators. After the self-enumeration period ends, trained enumerators will conduct the Houselisting Operation and Housing Census from August 17 to September 15, during which the submitted information will be verified and confirmed.
The online platform includes provisions for registration, secure submission of household data, and generation of a unique reference number for future verification.
