Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) Hospital, Siliguri, marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a community-focused programme honouring the courage, sacrifice and legacy of freedom fighters, particularly the celebrated and unsung heroes of North Bengal.
The event brought together doctors, nurses, staff and members of the hospital community and featured national flag hoisting, the national anthem and a special tribute to freedom fighters from the region. A key highlight was the launch of “North Bengal Remembers”, a campaign aimed at bringing greater attention to stories of resistance and sacrifice from the Hills and Terai to communities stretching from Siliguri to Malda.
AINU also organised a quiz contest for patients on India’s freedom struggle, North Bengal’s contribution and the lives of its freedom fighters, using the initiative to promote historical awareness and community engagement.
Dr Joydeep Ghosh, Executive Director and Senior Consultant, Urology, Kidney Transplant and Robotic Surgeon, AINU Siliguri, said preserving the region’s stories was important to inspire future generations. Medical Director Dr B Vijay Kiran said the quiz encouraged people to discover and engage with local history.
As part of Asia Healthcare Holdings, AINU operates seven hospitals across four cities, with a 500-plus bed network. The super-speciality chain has treated over 600,000 patients and performed more than 1,500 robotic surgeries, offering specialised urology and nephrology services.
