Assam’s Hatisar designated temporary immigration post for Bhutan’s Project 108

The Union Home Ministry has designated Hatisar in Assam as a temporary authorised immigration post to facilitate the movement of Bhutanese and third-country nationals travelling to Bhutan to attend an international event, Project 108.

The event is being organised at Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in Bhutan’s Sarpang district, which shares a border with Assam. The temporary immigration facility is expected to ease cross-border movement for participants travelling to the venue for the programme.

Project 108 involves the construction and simultaneous raising of 108 Jangchub Chortens, or Buddhist stupas, in a single day. The event is expected to bring together Bhutanese visitors, Buddhist monks and teachers from different parts of the world.

The designation of Hatisar as a temporary authorised immigration post is intended to provide a convenient route for eligible travellers entering Bhutan to participate in the event. The arrangement will help facilitate the movement of visitors through the Assam-Bhutan border during the programme.

Gelephu Mindfulness City, located in southern Bhutan, is the venue for the international event. Its proximity to Assam makes the border region an important transit point for visitors travelling from India and other countries.

The event is expected to attract religious participants and visitors from across the world, bringing international attention to Bhutan’s Buddhist traditions and spiritual heritage.

The temporary immigration arrangement at Hatisar highlights the role of Assam’s border points in facilitating cross-border travel between India and Bhutan, particularly during major international events. Further operational details regarding the facility were not provided in the available information.
