Flipkart has announced more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, including gig workers, for the upcoming festive season, with nearly 75,000 opportunities, or around 30%, going to first-time workforce entrants.
The e-commerce major said the opportunities will span more than 7,000 Ekart facilities, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations. Nearly 60% of the new opportunities, amounting to around 1.4 lakh positions, are in last-mile delivery, supported by more than 900 new festive delivery hubs. The expansion comes ahead of Big Billion Days and reflects rising demand across Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, alongside the expansion of Flipkart Minutes.
In Siliguri, the festive expansion could translate into increased activity for last-mile delivery, warehousing and associated logistics services as online shopping demand rises across Siliguri and wider North Bengal. The city’s role as a commercial gateway to neighbouring markets also places local logistics networks in a position to handle higher festive-season volumes.
Women now account for more than 20% of Flipkart’s supply chain workforce, while participation of persons with disabilities has increased across warehouse and delivery operations. Its Supply Chain Operations Academy has awarded nearly 10,000 certifications in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani.
Flipkart also said its marketplace ecosystem supports millions of sellers, merchants and small businesses, while workforce initiatives include medical and accident insurance, 24×7 Doctor on Call and e-Shram registration support.
