A passenger bus travelling from Guwahati to Lakhimpur overturned on a damaged stretch of highway at Khetri on Monday, September 1, after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Several passengers had narrow escapes, while the accident caused panic among those inside the bus.
According to preliminary reports, the bus was travelling towards Lakhimpur when it lost control on the damaged portion of the highway and overturned. The condition of the passengers and details of any injuries were not immediately available.
The accident occurred just a day after a fatal road crash in the Khetri-Nalgedera area on August 30, in which six people were reportedly killed and three others injured. The back-to-back incidents have brought renewed attention to road safety and the condition of the highway in the area.
In the August 30 accident, a passenger-carrying commercial vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 HC 0716 was reportedly travelling towards Guwahati when its driver lost control. The vehicle crossed the highway divider and collided head-on with a truck travelling in the opposite direction.
Six people died in that collision, while three injured persons were taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. The crash also disrupted traffic movement on NH-27, with a long queue of vehicles reported on the highway.
