Assam’s flood situation continued to remain serious on Friday, with the death toll rising to 98 after a woman from Charaideo district died in the past 24 hours, according to the latest update issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).The floodwaters have affected 13 districts across the state, with 33 revenue circles and 464 villages currently inundated. ASDMA said 1,55,849 people are affected by the floods as authorities continue relief and rescue operations in several areas.The affected districts are Golaghat, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Charaideo, Kamrup Metropolitan, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Nagaon, Hojai, Sonitpur, Darrang, Lakhimpur and Udalguri.The floods have also caused considerable damage to agricultural land. According to the ASDMA assessment, around 10,748.64 hectares of crop area have been submerged across the affected districts.
The prolonged flooding has raised concerns over the livelihoods of farming communities, particularly those living in rural and riverine areas where agriculture remains a major source of income.The situation has been further affected by rising water levels in some of the state’s major rivers. The Dhansiri river is continuing to flow above the danger level at both Golaghat and Numaligarh. The Kushiyara river has also crossed the danger mark in Sribhumi district.However, the latest assessment found no urban flooding in the state. The absence of urban flooding provides some relief, although several rural and low-lying areas continue to face the impact of rising water levels.
District administrations and disaster response teams remain engaged in relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Authorities are monitoring river levels and the condition of vulnerable communities as the situation changes.People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and follow instructions issued by the local administration. With several rivers still flowing above danger levels, authorities have maintained heightened vigilance across the affected districts.
