A daylong Capacity Building-cum-Orientation Programme for newly elected councillors of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Sikkim was held in Gangtok on Monday.
The programme was organised by the Urban Development Department (UDD), Government of Sikkim.
The programme was graced by Minister for Urban Development and Food and Civil Supplies Department, Bhoj Raj Rai, as the chief guest and MLA-cum-Advisor, Urban Development and Food and Civil Supplies Department, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Bhoj Raj Rai congratulated the newly-elected councillors and emphasised the pivotal role of Urban Local Bodies in effective grassroots governance and delivery of essential civic services.
He urged the councillors to work with integrity, transparency and public responsibility in close coordination with the Government and departmental officials to accelerate urban development and improve the quality of life of citizens.
The programme also witnessed the official launch of the logos of the newly-constituted Soreng Nagar Panchayat and Pakyong Nagar Panchayat by Minister Rai.
The event further featured experience-sharing sessions, wherein councillors from various Nagar Panchayats shared their achievements, experiences and suggestions.
