Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with Meta to introduce Silent Mobile Verification (SMV) capabilities for Vi subscribers using WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, marking a significant step in strengthening digital authentication and fraud prevention in India’s fast-growing online ecosystem. The new network-based authentication solution enables users to verify their mobile numbers seamlessly in the background without entering OTPs, switching applications or waiting for verification messages. The service is designed to support multiple user journeys, including new registrations, mobile number validation, login and re-login, account recovery, and authentication during security checks.
According to the companies, the technology leverages Vi’s telecom network to validate verification requests directly, delivering a faster onboarding experience while reducing manual steps and enhancing protection against phishing attacks and digital identity risks. Commenting on the launch, Abhijit Kishore, CEO of Vodafone Idea Limited, said telecom networks are increasingly playing a critical role in enabling safer digital experiences at scale. He noted that the collaboration with Meta would help enhance cyber safety, reduce fraud risks and provide seamless authentication across some of India’s most widely used digital platforms.
Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head, Meta India, said network-based authentication represents an important advancement in making verification simpler, faster and more secure for users across Meta platforms. The launch is being viewed as a milestone in the evolution of telecom network APIs and trusted digital infrastructure in India. Vi said it plans to expand such capabilities to additional applications and ecosystem partners, including advanced authentication, fraud prevention and intelligent risk-based verification solutions.
