Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to grab attention in the cricketing world with a series of impressive batting performances.
The 15-year-old Indian batting prodigy made another significant mark in the Duleep Trophy, becoming the youngest player in the competition’s history to register a half-century.
Playing for East Zone against Central Zone, Sooryavanshi was also handed the captaincy duties after regular skipper Ishan Kishan was ruled out with a wrist injury.
Despite his age, the Rajasthan Royals star looked completely at ease with the added responsibility. He once again showcased his fearless approach, taking on the opposition with his trademark aggressive batting.
Sooryavanshi brought up his fifty in just 42 deliveries, striking five fours and three sixes along the way. His attacking knock put him within touching distance of another major landmark, as he appeared well placed to score a century.
However, his impressive innings ended at 92, leaving him eight runs short of the three-figure mark.
Even without reaching a century, Sooryavanshi had already etched his name into the record books by the time he completed his half-century.
He reached the milestone at 15 years and 157 days, surpassing a record that had remained untouched for 57 years. The previous record belonged to Laxman Singh, who made his first Duleep Trophy fifty in 1969 at the age of 16 years and 23 days.
Sooryavanshi’s latest achievement adds yet another milestone to what has already been an extraordinary beginning to his professional career. His 92-run innings also demonstrated his ability to handle the demands of senior-level domestic cricket.
More significantly, his performance saw him break a record that had stood for more than five decades.
Earlier on Day 1 of the same match, Sooryavanshi had created history in another way by becoming the youngest captain in Duleep Trophy history. He took charge of East Zone as stand-in skipper after Ishan Kishan suffered a wrist injury.
