Rupee Rollout: Anthropic Introduces Localized Pricing for Claude AI in India

Anthropic has officially rolled out rupee-denominated pricing for its Claude AI subscription tiers in India, eliminating the need for local users to pay in US dollars via international credit cards. The localization move directly benefits India, which has rapidly climbed to become Anthropic’s second-largest user base globally, accounting for nearly 6% of Claude’s total traffic. Under the new structure, the premium Claude Pro subscription is priced at ₹2,399 per month on a monthly billing cycle, while choosing an annual plan brings the effective cost down to ₹2,000 per month (billed as ₹24,000 upfront annually). Importantly, these new localized figures are inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST), saving subscribers from unpredictable foreign currency markup fees.

The localized subscription rollout spans across Claude Pro, Claude Max, and Team tiers, while the basic free access plan remains unchanged. Power users can opt for the newly introduced Claude Max tiers—priced at ₹11,999 per month for the 5x usage plan and ₹23,999 per month for the high-intensity 20x usage plan. Meanwhile, the corporate-focused Claude Team plans start at ₹2,399 per user per month on an annual contract. While rivals like OpenAI integrated local Unified Payments Interface (UPI) support during their localization, Anthropic’s platform currently relies on standard card networks and major app store billing platforms. The pricing launch follows Anthropic’s aggressive push into India, marked by opening a Bengaluru headquarters earlier this year, hiring former Microsoft executive Irina Ghose to lead operations, and forging enterprise partnerships with tech giants like TCS and Infosys.
