The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making significant progress under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, with ongoing redevelopment works aimed at transforming railway stations into modern, passenger-friendly transport hubs.
Five stations in the district—Jalpaiguri, New Jalpaiguri, Dhupguri, New Mal Junction and Jalpaiguri Road—have been identified for redevelopment under the scheme. Of these, the redevelopment work at Jalpaiguri Road station has already been completed, while modernization projects at the remaining four stations are progressing rapidly.
The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader effort to enhance passenger amenities, improve accessibility, and develop world-class infrastructure across key railway stations in the country. Jalpaiguri Road Railway Station has already been transformed into a modern and eco-friendly facility.
The upgraded station features a redesigned circulating area with dedicated traffic lanes, organized parking facilities, and pedestrian pathways to ensure smooth passenger movement. It also includes a grand entrance porch, improved façade, modern booking counters, modular toilets, a refreshment room-cum-cafeteria, and a spacious waiting hall with a baby care room.
Additional improvements such as upgraded platform surfaces, landscaped green zones, and high-mast lighting systems have further enhanced both passenger comfort and the overall appearance of the station.
Special emphasis has been placed on accessibility, with Divyangjan-friendly facilities, dedicated parking spaces, improved signage systems, and enhanced passenger information services through modern display boards and upgraded public announcement systems.
According to NFR, redevelopment work at Jalpaiguri and Dhupguri stations is expected to be completed by December 2026, while New Jalpaiguri and New Mal Junction stations are likely to be completed in early 2027. The NFR reiterated its commitment to developing modern, sustainable, and passenger-centric railway infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing the overall travel experience in the region.
