The Indian Media Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (IMCAB) has announced its new two-year leadership committee, with Shahin Chowdhury of Tripura Express elected President and Masum Billah of Dainik Jugasankha and Eastern Chronicle elected General Secretary.
The new committee was announced on Friday night at the IMCAB Night and biennial general meeting held at Hotel Westin in the capital. The organisation represents various Indian media outlets operating in Bangladesh.
The newly elected office-bearers include Vice-President Rajib Khan (TV9), Joint General Secretary Mir Afroz Zaman (UNI), Treasurer Abu Ali (Amar Asom), and Organizing Secretary Aminul Haque Bhuiyan (Tripura Darpan).
The executive members are Basudev Dhar (Dainik Statesman), Rafiqul Islam Sabuj (Dainik Desher Katha), Nirmal Chakraborty (Face News), Zakir Hossain (Dainik Spandan), and Monir Hossain (Tripura Times).
The IMCAB election was scheduled for September 5, with August 29 set as the deadline for collecting and submitting nomination papers. As only one nomination was filed for each position, all candidates were elected unopposed. Mynul Hasan Sohel, General Secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), served as convener of the election conducting committee.
The IMCAB Night was chaired by outgoing president Kuddus Afrad, correspondent of Dainik Ei Samay. Gokul V.K., First Secretary of the Indian High Commission; Ayub Bhuiyan, General Secretary of the National Press Club; Somnath Dey, President of the Bangladesh chapter of Vishva Hindu Parishad; Farid Hossain, IMCAB’s founding convener and advisor; Anisur Rahman, advisor and PTI correspondent; and Dwip Azad, former General Secretary of IMCAB, attended the event, which concluded with a cultural programme.
