Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has questioned the Assam government over the alleged removal of a 2022 gazette notification related to Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve from its official website, after concerns were raised about missing pages covering the Panbari wildlife corridor. In a post on X, Gogoi alleged that the version of the notification uploaded on the Assam government portal was incomplete. He said the complete notification available on the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve website runs from pages 1,328 to 1,455, while the version on the state government portal ended at page 1,426.
According to Gogoi, this meant that 29 pages relating to the Panbari corridor were missing from the version uploaded on the government website. He questioned why the discrepancy allegedly remained uncorrected for around four years and why the document was subsequently removed after the issue came to public attention.“This coincides with reports of rare earth element deposits in the same belt,” Gogoi said, seeking greater transparency from the state government. The Congress leader asked the Assam government to explain why an incomplete notification was uploaded, why the alleged omission was not corrected earlier and why the document was removed later.
Gogoi also raised questions over the delay in formally notifying nine important animal corridors in and around the Kaziranga landscape. He said the Supreme Court-constituted Central Empowered Committee (CEC) had been seeking action on all nine corridors for several years. He described the issue as “not an isolated lapse” and linked it to wider concerns over development activities around Kaziranga. Gogoi alleged that the state government had signed MoUs for luxury hotels near the national park while failing to adequately address illegal mining in the area. He also criticised the arrest of an activist who, according to him, had raised questions about these issues.
