The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the licence of Westend Agro Products Pvt Ltd following serious violations of food safety regulations, including alleged alteration of manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers, and misleading product labels.
According to FSSAI, the action was taken after an inspection of the company’s premises based on a complaint regarding fraudulent re-labelling and the sale of misbranded food products. During the inspection, officials found that Westend Agro Products and Westend Corporation were operating from the same premises.
The food safety regulator stated that several products were found with altered manufacturing details, expiry dates, batch numbers, and misleading label declarations. Inspection teams also recovered printing machinery, stamps, solvents, packaging materials, labels, and printed wrappers allegedly used for changing mandatory food information.
FSSAI further stated that some products carried misleading claims, including “organic” declarations. The regulator observed that deliberate alteration of mandatory labelling information and the sale of food products with false or misleading labels could pose risks to consumer health.
Following the findings, the State FSSAI licence of Westend Agro Products Pvt Ltd was suspended with immediate effect. The company has been barred from continuing operations until further directions.
In recent months, FSSAI has intensified enforcement action against food business operators for violations related to misleading claims, improper labelling, and sub-standard products. The regulator has also initiated action based on consumer complaints, regular inspections, and suo motu investigations to strengthen food safety standards across the country.
