The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) has set an ambitious target of increasing its annual revenue from around Rs 120 crore to Rs 500 crore, with Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa saying the move will strengthen the council’s financial position and support faster development across Dima Hasao district.Addressing a press conference at Vajpayee Bhavan in Haflong on Sunday, Gorlosa welcomed the Assam Budget 2026-27, describing it as a balanced, people-centric and development-oriented financial plan. He praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah for presenting a budget that, according to him, promotes inclusive growth while making satisfactory allocations for Dima Hasao.Gorlosa said the budget gives priority to key sectors such as women’s empowerment, youth development, tourism, healthcare and road connectivity, which are expected to play an important role in improving the district’s economy and overall quality of life. He said these sectors are vital for creating new opportunities and ensuring long-term development in the hill district.
Speaking about the council’s financial plans, Gorlosa said the NCHAC has already started taking steps to increase its own revenue generation. The council aims to raise its annual revenue collection from the present Rs 120 crore to Rs 500 crore over time. He said achieving this goal would make the council financially stronger and reduce its dependence on external funding for development activities.”The increase in our own revenue will enable the council to take up more development projects and speed up infrastructure creation across Dima Hasao,” Gorlosa said, expressing confidence that the target can be achieved through planned financial reforms and improved resource mobilisation.He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to improving the lives of people in the district. According to Gorlosa, the autonomous council will fast-track infrastructure and public welfare projects to ensure inclusive and sustainable development reaches every part of Dima Hasao.The press conference was also attended by Haflong MLA Rupali Langthasa and BJP Dima Hasao district president Dhrity Thaosen, who expressed support for the council’s development agenda and the state government’s budgetary initiatives.
The announcement comes as the Assam government continues to focus on strengthening infrastructure, improving public services and encouraging balanced regional development through its Budget 2026-27. The NCHAC leadership believes that higher internal revenue, combined with state support, will help accelerate development works and improve public services in Dima Hasao in the coming years.
