Delhi Capitals Star Arrested Over Rape Allegation After Medical Student’s Complaint

Indian cricketer and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a case involving allegations that he had sexual relations with a woman after promising to marry her.

Police took Porel into custody from Hooghly on Tuesday morning. He was questioned for several hours before being formally arrested in the afternoon. Following his arrest, he was taken for a medical examination and later produced before the Chinsurah Court. An anticipatory bail hearing in the case was also scheduled for Tuesday.

The case came to light after a medical student lodged a complaint at Mogra Police Station. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with Porel and that he had sexual relations with her after assuring her that he would marry her. She further alleged that he had recorded their intimate moments.

According to the woman’s complaint, both families had also discussed the possibility of their marriage. However, she later allegedly came to know that Porel was involved in relationships with other women.

The FIR, which reportedly includes 19 sections, states that the alleged incident took place in Delhi on April 2, 2026. The complaint further alleges that Porel confined the woman against her will, denied her food and deliberately kept her isolated. It also claims that she became physically weak and had difficulty walking as a result.

The complaint further states that although the woman had a flight to catch, she was allegedly forced to seek immediate medical treatment because of injuries she claimed to have suffered. The allegations are part of the case and will be subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
