BHIM app sees massive FY26 growth as digital payments gain momentum

The BHIM Payments App, developed by NPCI BHIM Services Limited, registered a sharp rise in digital payment transactions in FY26, recording a 301 per cent increase in total transaction volumes compared to FY25, the company said on Thursday. According to the company, monthly transaction volumes on the app increased from 5.93 crore in April 2025 to 21.6 crore in March 2026. The growth momentum continued in April 2026, with transaction volumes touching 22.49 crore and transaction value reaching ₹26,040 crore.

In West Bengal, the app witnessed rising adoption in daily payment activities, with 71 per cent of transactions categorised as peer-to-merchant (P2M) payments. Grocery purchases accounted for 22.5 per cent of merchant transactions, followed by food outlets and restaurants at 18.7 per cent. Quick commerce, e-commerce and fuel stations also emerged as major payment categories. MD and CEO of NBSL, Lalitha Nataraj, said the growth reflected increasing trust among users in secure and simple digital payment systems. She said digital payments were becoming an integral part of everyday life across sectors such as groceries, dining, commuting and online shopping.

The company also highlighted growing adoption of RuPay Credit Card on UPI and feature-based services such as UPI Circle, Family Mode, Split Expenses, spends analytics, forex booking and prepaid recharge facilities.
