An Assam Rifles patrol team came under attack near the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district early Tuesday morning, leaving one personnel dead, officials said.
The incident took place at around 6.30 am near Nampong Nallah, under Nampong Circle, when Assam Rifles personnel were carrying out a routine patrol in an area where fencing work is currently underway along the international border.
According to preliminary information, the patrol team was attacked by suspected cadres of the NSCN-K-YA, the Yung Aung faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang. Security officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and efforts are underway to establish the exact sequence of events.
The deceased personnel was identified as 42-year-old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki.
Following the incident, security forces launched operations in the area to track down those suspected to be involved in the attack. Additional security measures have also been put in place to secure the border region and prevent any further incident.
The attack took place at a time when security arrangements along the India-Myanmar border have been strengthened, particularly in areas where fencing work is being undertaken to improve surveillance and border management.
