Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the state has received approval for 3.8 lakh new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), involving an investment of nearly ₹5,000 crore.
The approval was formally handed over to the Chief Minister by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a meeting held on Wednesday.
Sarma said the Union Minister had also assured Assam of additional housing support for people affected by floods, with more PMAY houses to be sanctioned for flood-hit areas to help families rebuild their homes at the earliest.
The Centre will also extend further support for housing in Assam’s tea garden areas, the Chief Minister said.
Expressing his gratitude to Chouhan for the support extended to the state, Sarma said, “Deeply grateful to Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji for the priority and support he continues to extend to Assam.”
