AINU Siliguri combines festive engagement with kidney-friendly nutrition for dialysis patients

The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), Siliguri, has organised a Pre-Puja get-together for dialysis patients, highlighting its focus on patient-centric care and nutrition alongside clinical treatment.

The event, themed “A Day With You”, brought together dialysis patients and the hospital’s care team ahead of the Puja festivities. The programme featured food, music and interactive activities, providing patients an opportunity to step away briefly from their regular treatment schedules and participate in the festive spirit.

A key highlight was the introduction of a specially curated kidney-friendly menu developed under the guidance of AINU dietitians. The initiative aimed to demonstrate that food suited to the nutritional requirements of dialysis patients can also be enjoyable, while reinforcing the importance of appropriate dietary choices in kidney care.

Dr B. Vijay Kiran, medical director, senior consultant nephrologist and kidney transplant physician at AINU Siliguri, said dialysis patients had to maintain disciplined routines and make significant dietary and lifestyle adjustments. The initiative was designed to provide them with a festive experience while highlighting the role of suitable nutrition in their care.

Through such activities, AINU Siliguri is seeking to strengthen the emotional and social aspects of healthcare alongside medical treatment, underlining the importance of patient well-being and a more supportive care environment for patients and their families.
