Maruti Suzuki Ups Green Vehicle Projections as Automatic CNG Models Target New Buyers

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has set a target to sell 1 million “green vehicles”—spanning CNG, hybrid, and electric models—in FY27, buoyed by market tailwinds such as high crude oil prices and the introduction of automatic transmission across its CNG portfolio. As part of its “Auto Green Mission,” the market leader launched automatic S-CNG variants for its popular Swift, Dzire, and Baleno models, priced at ₹7.92 lakh, ₹8.53 lakh, and ₹8.32 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. MSIL, which commands a 70 percent market share in the CNG segment, previously anticipated selling 8 to 9 lakh green units this fiscal year, but raised its outlook to target buyers who sought CNG’s running-cost benefits without sacrificing automatic convenience. Senior Executive Officer for Marketing & Sales Partho Banerjee stated that CNG penetration currently sits at 43 percent within Maruti’s portfolio, supported by monthly sales near 80,000 units. Banerjee noted that customer demand remains high, with the primary constraint being supply capacity—currently restricted to 18,000 units a month—and expressed optimism that easing production bottlenecks could push CNG penetration toward 50 percent of the company’s green portfolio. MSIL also highlighted that the new Dzire automatic S-CNG stands as India’s most fuel-efficient sedan, delivering 36.47 km/kg.
