Walmart-Backed Flipkart Challenges Zomato and Swiggy with New Food and Quick-Commerce Apps

Walmart-backed e-commerce giant Flipkart is expanding its reach into new digital categories by testing a food-delivery service named ‘Eat In’ alongside a standalone app for its quick-commerce venture, Flipkart Minutes. Currently undergoing internal testing among employees in Bengaluru, ‘Eat In’ is set to widen its internal pilot around mid-September ahead of a prospective consumer launch in the city. Concurrently, Flipkart is offering a dedicated Minutes app to a select group of users, aiming for a broader rollout before its signature Big Billion Days sale in October. These strategic moves highlight Flipkart’s intention to challenge established competitors like Zomato and Swiggy, as well as emerging players such as Rapido, in the rapidly evolving quick-commerce and food-tech ecosystems. Rapido has already made strides in Bengaluru with its zero-commission food-delivery platform ‘Ownly’, which boasts nearly 20,000 restaurant partners and recently joined the NRAI Food Delivery Summit 2026 as an industry partner. Meanwhile, Swiggy is capturing the price-sensitive market through its standalone app ‘Toing’, which has grown rapidly to reach an estimated 33 million weekly active users—nearing Zomato’s 35 million. By diversifying into food delivery and dedicated quick commerce, Flipkart aims to secure a stronger foothold in India’s highly competitive, high-frequency consumer delivery landscape.
