The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has urged the state’s recruitment agencies to strictly implement the newly notified uniform eligibility criteria for direct recruitment to government posts, including examinations that are already in the pipeline.
AAPSU president Meje Taku and general secretary Mato Bui made the appeal in separate letters to the chairpersons of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB), seeking immediate compliance with the state government’s notification.
Under the new eligibility norms, candidates applying for direct recruitment to state government posts must possess a valid Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC), an Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe certificate as an original inhabitant of the state, and working knowledge of an indigenous tribal language.
AAPSU has asked the APPSC to apply the new criteria to all future and pending recruitments for Group A, Group B and Group C posts. It has similarly urged the APSSB to incorporate the provisions into both upcoming and pending recruitment notifications.
The students’ body has also called on the APSSB to clearly include the post-joining language proficiency test mechanism in its recruitment notifications.
Under the new provisions, candidates selected for government service will have to clear a language proficiency test. Until the test becomes part of the competitive examination process, it will be conducted after candidates join service and must be cleared within their three-year probation period.
Officials said candidates who fail to qualify in the language test within the stipulated period will have their annual increments and promotions withheld until they pass the test.
The Arunachal Pradesh government notified the uniform eligibility criteria on Wednesday for direct recruitment to posts and services under the state government and government-controlled bodies. The move followed the state Cabinet’s approval of the proposal at its meeting on August 13.
AAPSU has called for the new provisions to be implemented uniformly rather than being applied selectively. It warned that any delay, dilution or selective implementation of the government order would face strong opposition from the student community.
