The Assam Cabinet on Tuesday approved a series of infrastructure and development measures, including the proposed construction of a Taj Gateway five-star hotel at Jagiroad and a package of rural infrastructure projects under the VB-G RAM G scheme.The Cabinet approved the draft Lease Deed between the Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited (AIDC Ltd.) and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) for the proposed Taj Gateway five-star hotel at Jagiroad.The approval marks an important procedural step for the hospitality project, which is expected to add to the commercial infrastructure of Jagiroad and strengthen its position as an emerging industrial and economic centre. The proposed hotel will also bring a major hospitality brand to the area, potentially supporting business activity and related services.The decision is part of the state government’s broader efforts to facilitate private investment and develop supporting infrastructure around emerging economic hubs. Jagiroad has been witnessing increasing industrial and infrastructure activity, making the development of hospitality and other support services an important part of the area’s growth.
In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved a series of priority rural infrastructure works under the VB-G RAM G scheme. The projects will be implemented through convergence with Finance Commission grants and other eligible funding resources.The approved works include interlocking paver block roads, women-led rural haats, school boundary walls, crematoriums and waiting sheds, individual beneficiary schemes, and community halls that can also be used as gyms or wellness centres.The convergence-based funding approach will allow different eligible financial resources to be utilised together for implementing the identified projects. This is expected to help expand the reach of rural infrastructure works while making use of available funding provisions.The rural projects are aimed at improving basic infrastructure and creating community assets in villages. The proposed roads are expected to improve local connectivity, while women-led rural haats will provide spaces for rural economic activities and support community-level livelihoods.
The Cabinet’s approval of school boundary walls, crematoriums, waiting sheds and community halls also covers a range of basic public facilities that are used by residents in their daily lives. The community halls, which may also function as gyms or wellness centres, are intended to provide additional spaces for community activities. The decisions taken by the Cabinet cover both urban-linked economic infrastructure and rural development requirements, with the hotel project focusing on strengthening support infrastructure around an emerging economic centre and the VB-G RAM G package addressing basic facilities and community assets in rural areas.
