North Bengal University (NBU) has entered into a significant international partnership with Osaka University, Japan, through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing research and academic collaboration in chemical sciences.
The agreement, signed on June 15 between the Department of Chemistry at NBU and the Graduate School of Science at Osaka University, was formally highlighted during a programme held on Tuesday in the presence of faculty members, research scholars and students. Representatives from Osaka University also joined the event virtually.
University officials stated that the collaboration is expected to enhance NBU’s global academic profile while promoting joint research, faculty exchange and student mobility between the two institutions. The partnership will also facilitate access to advanced laboratory infrastructure and expertise, enabling collaborative work on emerging scientific challenges.
According to NBU authorities, the initiative originated from academic discussions during a visit to Japan under the Sakura Exchange Fellowship programme administered by the Japan Science and Technology Agency. These discussions eventually led to the formalisation of the MoU.
Senior faculty members described the agreement as a landmark development that will provide students and researchers with international exposure and opportunities to engage in high-quality scientific research. Osaka University representatives also welcomed the collaboration, stating that it will promote sustained academic interaction through seminars, workshops and conferences.
The partnership is expected to strengthen India–Japan academic ties and contribute to globally relevant research in chemical sciences.
