IIM Calcutta Promotes Entrepreneurship with Flexible Placement Policy

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-Calcutta) has introduced a new initiative allowing MBA students to pursue entrepreneurial ventures without permanently giving up campus placement opportunities, according to a statement issued by the institute on Saturday.

Announcing the initiative at the induction ceremony for the 63rd MBA batch, Director Alok Kumar Rai said students who opt to spend a year building start-ups instead of participating in campus placements will be permitted to rejoin the placement process the following year if they choose to do so.

The new MBA batch comprises 480 students, with 67 per cent male and 33 per cent female representation. Of the cohort, 41 per cent are fresh graduates, while 59 per cent have prior work experience. Engineering students form the largest group at 54.7 per cent, followed by commerce, science and arts backgrounds.

The induction ceremony was attended by industry leaders, including Ganesh Mohan, Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv Asset Management Ltd. Pranav Adani, Managing Director of Adani Enterprises, also announced the continuation of the Adani Accelerated Leadership Programme, which provides full-fee scholarships to six meritorious students annually.

An MoU was signed between IIM-Calcutta and the Adani Group to further strengthen collaboration, alongside the announcement of 200 bicycles to improve campus mobility for students.
