Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has decided not to hold a victory parade to celebrate its second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title, keeping in mind the incident last year in which 11 people died. On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets here to clinch the IPL title for the second time in a row.
RCB also took this decision keeping in mind the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka’s newly appointed Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, scheduled to be held at Lok Bhavan. During the victory parade organized on June 4 last year, 11 fans were killed near Chinnaswamy Stadium.
An RCB source said, “The possibility of any kind of celebration in Bengaluru is very low. There are certain specific guidelines and we have to follow them.”
Meanwhile, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said, “We will not allow any kind of public celebration. If anyone wants to celebrate, they can do so indoors.”
