A sudden ambush was carried out against an Assam Rifles patrol team near the Indo-Myanmar border. The horrific incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Around 6:30 AM, while fencing work was underway at the border, militants launched a surprise attack on a team from the 21st Assam Rifles near Nampong Nala under the Nampong circle.
According to preliminary information, 42-year-old Havildar Jankhokhai Kuki was martyred on the spot, and four other soldiers were seriously injured. The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated by helicopter for advanced medical treatment.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation. There is a strong suspicion that militants from the NSCN (K-YA) group are behind the attack, although no official confirmation has been released yet. An official statement from the Assam Rifles is awaited.
Regarding the incident, Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu said, “We have received information about the attack on the Indo-Myanmar border and have directed the Officer-in-Charge of the Changlang Police Station to collect full details of the incident.”
It is noteworthy that this border area of Changlang district has long been identified as highly sensitive due to the movement of banned militant organizations active across the international border. In this context, the attack on the army while fencing work was ongoing to tighten security has created a tense situation at the border.
